A Travelers’ Reveal

October 6, 2026

From 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 7th, join Frank Ward and Vivian Leskes to celebrate the publication of their new book of photographs and essays:

“Coherence” pairs Ward’s black-and-white photographs with stories by Leskes. Together they offer a lifetime of images and stories gathered from Bodhgaya to Stonehenge and from Mexico to Massachusetts..

The book takes its name from a night in 1969, when Ward, a young photographer with a secondhand Nikon and a single roll of film, exposed the same frames three times. Developing those overlapping negatives, he found the picture had organized itself into something whole and understood that his work was less to compose the world than to stay open to the coherence already in it.

That practice continued across decades and resulted in this book of quiet, attentive portraits and landscapes. Leskes’s essays give many of the photographs place and meaning. It is a book about seeing, and about the patience it takes to let a photograph become itself.

A book reading starts at 2:30 pm. This event is free and open to all.

The gallery is downstairs in Belding Memorial Library, 344 Main Street, Ashfield, MA. The show will remain open during library hours through December: Monday/ Wednesday 2-8, pm, Saturday 10 am to 3 pm.
